Good thoughts in the direction of my cousin Charlie would be appreciated. He's in the hospital in Boston with the combo of ruptured aorta and stroke.
spiralngphoenix: (Gardening)
It was a rather lovely day today, and so there was the annual attacking of the yard for some spring gardening )

Now, I have guacamole setting on the counter that should be just about ready to eat.

*Hmm...mental note: find reason to candy violet flowers in a few weeks when the bastards start to bloom.

Help me choose a name!
spiralngphoenix: (Grim Squeaker)
It's been a while since I did one of these, but this was just too good to pass up!

* These folks have reached a new and interesting level of "We want you to run EVERYTHING for us" in their ad. The highlights, as it's a 3 screen ad: Part-time Office Manager/Bookkeeper to be in charge of not only the entire office, from home, but also all aspects of AP/AR/Purchasing/Payroll, all aspects of HR (including the interview process), IT, etc., all for the low price of $12-15/hr w/no benefits. Oh, and even though it's a remote position, you still need to be local only.

* For a part-time delivery driver: "You must have six years of driving in Massachusetts...". So if you just moved from out of state, go screw? Only long-term Massachusetts drivers need apply? Guys, I know you don't get it, but you really don't drive that differently from anywhere else. Well, maybe Rhode Island...

* PT job-great office job for retiree or supplemental income. Good thing you only want someone who either doesn't need to work, or just wants something to do, 'cause that schedule? Oi!

* Sell our stuff on eBay! (Also, you wanna pimp our stuff on FB and Twitter while you're at it? We just want the money. We don't want to any of the actual work...

* Typos right in the tag-line, starting nearly every sentence with the word "Candidate", incorrect use of punctuation... (I seriously need to start marketing myself as a bloody proof-reader for online ads. The horrendous execution of the English language makes me die a little more inside every day.)

And folks still seriously think the reason people are out of work is because they're just lazy...

It's Tech Week at the Studio.

Right. Apparently Google isn't compatible with ITSELF. Back to the drawing board...

Dried Fruit

I have no idea why I have a dried pomegranate on a pedestal on my table. I really don't. It's been hanging out there for months, and today I decided to photograph it. Enjoy!
spiralngphoenix: (Technology hates me)
Hey Chrome users~ Are a lot of folks having issues with my website crashing the browser? (If this is a widespread problem, I may need to reassess the new Checkout system.)

Here.
spiralngphoenix: (Temptation)
I've been busy the last few days. Google Checkout is now live, and a little bit of product review.

Was approached with an interesting idea the other day, which I've been giving some thought to. The idea of ghost writing articles for pay. Granted, now huge pay, but a bit of extra income and the chance to do several things at once: a.) the aforementioned extra income, b.) help someone out with growing their own business, c.) learn more about the topic myself in the process, and d.) hone my writing skills a bit more. All of these are good things. We shall see how it pans.

I am strangely amused by the fact that I narrowly avoided being hit by a car last night, on the same street that Lovecraft grew up on. (I checked Googlemaps.)

Sometimes I'm amused by the oddest things...
spiralngphoenix: (Peepicide)
OMG, they're driving me crazy. Seriously. I escaped from you nearly a year ago, LEAVE ME THE F ALONE!

It was one thing when you called me months back to get a piece of paper telling you whether or not I'm currently working in the field. When I explained to you why you were not going to get the correct information (i.e., the doctor who looked at my knee back in September, with my consent, listed it as "knee sprain" in the record so that I only had to pay the minimum fee for having it looked at, with the admonition to hie myself to an orthopedist as it was most definitely NOT an injury. However, this means that the record is technically incorrect, and is not going to be accepted by the state as "Incapable of Being A Practicing MT".) and told you that I was not driving back out to the walk-in clinic just to get you an incorrect document, the correct response should have been "Well, we tried. Thank you, anyway." Not to continue to call me every month until my phone was disconnected, and THEN START EMAILING ME.

To have the friggin' president of the school start emailing me is now beyond irritating into "You are now pissing me off". No, I'm not helping you on this. I do not like how you handle my financial aid. I do not like how you continuously pared information out of the curriculum, had teachers who contradicted one another, and generally gave me what I feel is a substandard education for the money and aggravation I had to shell out.

In addition, I seriously doubt that the State is going to penalize you if ONE student doesn't respond. Oh, unless enough students are refusing to answer that you are freaking out that you will lose your accreditation. Know what? Don't care. You took one of the best muscular therapy schools into the country and turned it into the puppy mill of the massage therapy world. Better still, you lied to the students who had either started their courses before the take-over, and also to those of us who started a couple months after, claiming that the curriculum would still maintain the quality that was MTI. You did not, by a long shot. So, no, I am not getting you the piece of paper that will help you maintain what I consider to be an inappropriately held title.

Now leave me alone.

Yay tax returns!

Clearly school last year was the Best Plan Ever, even if it didn't end with me having an actual functional career. It was at least useful in procuring me a handy tax return. Which, I am proud to say, I DID MYSELF! (Okay, I used the free online TurboTax to do it, but I typed it all in by myself!) I seriously have not done my own taxes since I was 18 or 19. Math is hard. ;)

Happily, it's timing means I get to go in on some veggie and fruit CSA goodness for the year, which means I can kick this damned carb/protein only diet thing 'cause DAMN are fresh veggies expensive! The intertubes are going to be my new best friend, so I can figure out what on earth to do with a bunch of veggies. (Especially weeks where veggies consist of zucchini and summer squash which I adore, but the boy detests.) YAY FRESH LOCAL FOOD!

This also means that Endgame is definitely a go. *wipes forehead in relief* I was worried about that, but now it is possible. Hooray!

In other news, I'm considering the idea of figuring out if freelance office work is an option, and if so, what I need to do in order to get that actually coherent. Also considering getting myself an EIN and going legit. (Apparently I don't need to start filing business taxes until my net earnings total $400, so that's a big worry out of the way.) We'll see how that goes. Included in this is also wrassling the art stuff into some semblance of functionality, as well, instead of being quite so rambly and disjointed. (My brain hasn't been firing on all synapses lately. I'm working on correcting that.)

Splurged and acquired myself a copy of Machinarium. If nothing else, it'll amuse me for a little while, and help clear the cobwebs in my head by *gasp* actually having to think and do problem-solving!

That's about it, I guess. Everything else is still SS,DD.

Edit: Tomorrow there will be a trip to Providence. I'm remembering my camera this time. :)
spiralngphoenix: (Morgan)
Endgame season is fast approaching, and I've been doing some thinking regarding what to do about the OOG fact that my knee is likely as good as it's ever going to be again, and the IG fact that Morgan is a front-line fighting thug. I thought about doing the "Wait a while longer and see what happens at fight practices before doing anything", but then realized that, as much as I'd like to deny it, I just can't predict when I'm going to have a bad day and be gimping around with the cane, and events are going to aggravate it. I need to suck it up and adjust things appropriately.

According to boy, my best option is to look into a medical respec, which will entail finding out a.) who, precisely, I discuss that with, b.) what that process is, and c.) oh dear gods, this sort of alters my timeline for the season, at least. Also, I should probably do this before the first Temple event (Canada is already a caster, and besides, I still need to build her in the first place)... *sigh*

*whines* But I didn't wanna be a caster!! *pout*
spiralngphoenix: (cooking things)
I think I may have a new favorite chicken and rice recipe, which is slightly altered from a chicken curry recipe on the Penzey's website.

Folks with spoiled kitties. These are really pretty...

We're being invaded by a swarm of grackles. I have no idea why, but there are probably about 50+ of them in the trees in the yard. I am amused.
spiralngphoenix: (kitsune)
I'm slowly becoming convinced that there is a story to the Foxenwood. I just haven't found out what it is, yet...

"Excuse me, please..."

How I spent part of my Saturday. Thank you, Miss Chaointe!
