I can actually get there... if I were a little paranoid, and not a LARPer. Because personally I would have moved closer to get a better look before blowing whistles.

That and the fact that it's not the first time people have decided that something completely innocuous was obviously a weapon. (LED boards, backpacks, a cardboard of abandoned kittens...)
This is why the friggin' media needs to stop the fear-mongering that the "TERRORISTS R EVERYWHEEEERE".

Many years ago, when much less was known of HIV, and in a different workplace...
Co-worker was good buddies with me, and then suddenly would have nothing to do with me. A different co told me later that the other had seen me take insulin before eating lunch. As near as we could figure, the semi-logic progression was: Diabetes=insulin=needles=AIDS=anything I touched would transfer it.
Amazing how stupid the public can be.
