Ya know that project I've mentioned off and on over at the Studio blog? I finally decided to release it today. It's not as completed as I'd intended (okay, really it's only short a few books and the planned-for online shop), but that's only because I'm having a bitch of a time getting the graphic I want to use to look right so I can upload it. However, everything else is actually set, ready to go, and just waiting for me to actually tell people about it. Meanwhile, I'm wracking up an ever growing list of "Things I Want To Do", that can't until I actually let it out.

You see, I've been thinking for a Very Long Time now (read: years) that I want to start seriously writing on a specific topic. I've looked at the pay-per-article sites, and each (as usual) has something that I just don't care for. For example: examiner.com requires a minimum of 4 articles per week. Now, I could probably manage to pull together that many articles per week, providing that, you know, nothing ever comes up that prevents me from doing so. (Too many folks online said that if you miss one, they will send nasty emails almost immediately. Not cool for a company that pays you literally pennies per article.) Also, I don't like that NONE of them are forthcoming about payment. It was only after talking to some folks who have worked with them that rough figures were discovered. On top of that was the "What do I really know enough about that I could feel reasonably confident writing articles about?" This was a key sticking point for a very long time. I really am the proverbial Jack-of-all-Trades.

Then it dawned on me. One thing I am very passionate about, and do know a lot about, is eco-friendliness. Most specifically, balancing a "Green" lifestyle with living a normal life. My parents were both conservationists, I was management at a natural foods store, have been working with herbs, essential oils, and making my own cleaning things for decades. I also really like modern life. I like my car and do not think I should pitch it in favor of a bicycle (highly impractical, even without the bad knees). I like eating mangoes and avocados and other non-native foods, and do not think that one should ONLY eat locally-grown organic produce because that's what ones ancestors ate. I am, however, generally pretty good at balancing this without going all out hippie-chick eco-warrior or disregarding the environmental impact that my actions do have. I used to joke about "living plaid", and have spent much time over the years introducing people to the concept that you can actually do both, and it's really not that hard. It's a matter of doing your homework and choosing your battles.

So, since Blogger has domains for $10/yr, I thought it might be worth a shot. I set up an Amazon Affiliates account (which means that any item purchased through my aStore pays me a percentage) and am working on also getting a decent graphic to put on things like water bottles and canvas bags. To start, I'm planning on two articles per week minimum, and will increase from there. (This week aside, they will be posted on Monday and Friday.) I encourage people to ask questions, make suggestions, and tell others about me. (I'm REALLY fond of that last one. ;) ) I, for one, am looking forward to finally getting my butt moving on this.

Now, without further ado...Introducing: Living Plaid
