And, because it was a really cute pic that I took earlier (cross your fingers that the random luck of the draw "contest" it got entered in wins me new reading material from one of my favoritest authors ever), here:

Gratuitous cattage.

Is that "The City of Coin and Spice" by Catherynne M Valente? I know her through lj. We've met a few times. :-)

Very close. "In the Night Garden". :) I've had brief discussions with her through LJ, but haven't met her. She apparently lives about 15-20 minutes from a friend of mine. I admit to being horribly shy about talking to famous people in person

It's funny, I don't think of her as a famous person. Just a person who started publishing after I met her and writes some damn good books. I have Palimpest on my to read pile.

Ah, but you introduced me to her work, after she'd been published, so even though she's not hugely world famous, my brain still counts it.

Ok, so I'm also just plain painfully, brutally shy sometimes, too. ;) I really would like to meet her at some point, but have this sinking feeling that I'd probably panic and freeze up, which would be horrendously embarrassing. ('cause I am that cool kid)

I completely adore her writing, though. I got a copy of Palimpest at Christmas and have been making myself read it VERY slowly. I burned through Night Garden too fast, even though I only allowed myself a chapter a night. Otherwise I'd blast through it in a night and would be very sad that I was done. Some books, like sex, must be taken very slowly...

Oh, did I introduce you? I guess that makes sense. She's just another human - I'm sure you'd do fine. Or, yknow, maybe not. Maybe you'd be a quivering pile of shy jelly. But it'd be cool to find out.
