I have a confession to make.

I have not had a library card for the last 6 or so years. (Yes, yes...as a librarian's daughter this is a sin nearly as grievous as saying I haven't read a book in years, which is probably ranked somewhere between swearing at a nun and spitting on a saint's grave...It's just not done.) In my defense, I never intended to stay in any of the towns I have ended up in for very long, and so didn't figure on being around long enough to bother getting one. I have an extensive book collection of my own, and no qualms about re-reading things, so really, what was the point?

Well, today I finally acknowledged that I am likely to be here for a bit and with my personal collection residing nearly an hour's drive away, this is somewhat problematic. So, while I and the boy were out running errands I stopped at the town library and got myself a library card.

I didn't realize how much I'd missed that library smell...

I've gotten library cards in places I was staying for less than a month!

For me, it's kinda one of those things that signifies "I live here. I'm a member of this community." (Probably because of how much of the first half of my life was tied into the library.) I haven't wanted to get attached to anywhere that I've stayed in the last few years, because the intent wasn't to stay. It's one of those seemingly inconsequential things that for whatever reason have managed to get huge things attached to them.

The first thing I do when I move somewhere is get a library card as then I don't have to pay to hang out anywhere and I get free internet and free books. I've even gotten temporary cards while on vacation. Libraries are the best resource for a person new to a place.

Oh, believe me, I know! I make no pretense of understanding my weird mental issue around libraries. I fully expect to get lectured by several of the library staff/family over on FB about "What do you mean, you haven't had a library card in all this time?! Didn't we raise you better than that?".

Oh man, I may need that! I love the stories that go with it, too. :D

It's a good place. They were always helpful when Imp needed something. And I think there's still coffee in there somewhere.

...at some point I need to acknowledge *I* live here and just make a damn Ominous!Bridge icon...

I really liked the feel of it when I went in, and the lady at the desk was a sweetheart. That coffee idea may need investigating, as I suspect I'll end up in there for hours.

Feel free to gank any of the photos I've taken of it, if you want. It would make a great icon. ;)
