Dammit. The Borders in Nashua, where the boy and I hide from the summer and occasionally go to just to get out of the house and have a cup of coffee while peering at books is one of the ones slated to be closed. The list of closing stores is here.

Guess it's Barnes & Noble and their crappy coffee and tiny tables now. *sigh*

For what it's worth, the town library is quite nice and actually also has coffee, at least the last time I was there...

I really do need to poke my nose in there at some point. I keep meaning to, but never get around to it.

I'm very grateful that Burlington, VT is keeping theirs.

I hope you find a new book hangout.

Lucky. Apparently the other nearbyish one (Burlington MA) is also on the list of closures.

I'm sure something will turn up. Sadly, there aren't too many local options around Pepperell.

It's not so much the books, as the hanging out with coffee and books. Both of us have had the idea that owning a combo bookstore/cafe would kinda be awesome. (The idea probably far more than the reality, but there you go.) There are so few places you can just sit around for hours at without having to spend a ton of money, especially this far out. Most libraries I've been in are rather particular about talking in them.

I have never been in a library where they cared in the least bit about people talking. Eating sure, but not talking. Many even have special areas with seats set up for this purpose. Nice leather chairs..

Volare mentioned the one here in town used to be the more social variety, so I'll definitely need to wander by. I keep meaning to, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Bummer. I was hoping that one would stay open. Such a great cafe staff, they'd have live music sometimes, and it was such a great place to hang out.

The staff is awesome, and I'm REALLY going to miss being able to just go and hang out for half the day (or night). B&N's coffee is awful (NOT a Starbucks fan), and the nearest cafe/bookstore I know of otherwise is the one that opened on 38 in Tewksbury. Looks nice, but it's not exactly what I'd considered local.

Oh bother. I <3 that place too.

It is so cracking me up that I got an email from their CEO to-day, tho. You know, that they're still generally in biz and whatnot.

Yeah, me too. I'm curious where they're still in business, seeing as they seem to be shutting down a ton of stores! Everything that's easily accessible from here is gone.
