Run-by updating

Yesterday was a Bad Knee Day, level somewhere around last Fall bad. Gods I'd almost managed to forget how sucktastic that was. Oddly enough, it was fine all weekend (for which I'm eternally grateful) and was even alright on Monday. Of course, I'm not sure if that's because everything else hurt so much more (a winter of enforced inactivity followed only by a few weeks of daily walks of no more than a mile and half is NOT conducive to a launch into full-on larp combat) that I didn't notice, or what. Things to keep an eye on next event, I guess. *grumble* I have the sinking feeling that I'm likely to make exactly the same choice my father made with this and say "Screw it, I'm not missing out on having fun just because it's going to royally suck in a day or two. It's not like it's going to make it any better or worse!" I'm not going to sit idly in the tavern buildings just because it's going to hurt later. Really, as Dad is proof of, it really won't make a difference one way or the other, so I may as well have fun beforehand and buy stock in Pfizer.

On the plant front, the grass patches I started are doing phenomenally well, for which I'm terribly excited. Will need to price out the larger bags to see if it's feasible to get the rest of the lawn turned into a lawn. My basil and cilantro are thriving, though the chivelettes are looking a little sad just yet. The wildflower bed sprouted over the weekend, so I'm hopeful that will hold out against the violets.

Need to work on PEL. No idea where to start, though my standard bullet-pointed section is pretty much done. The weekend ended up being WAY more intense than I was expecting, and now I'm not sure how to even go about writing about it. This will be interesting.

Today, my plan is to clean off my worktable and get at least one of the Foxentrees transfered onto the watercolor paper. I've been badly slacking on that end of things for the last week or so, and I need to get out of that particular rut. I'd wanted to yesterday, but the aforementioned knee issues made it too much of a pain in the arse to hobble back and forth. I even tried working on the couch, but just couldn't get the right angle to not make a mess of it. Happily, I'm back to what passes for normal these days, so back to the table for me.

That's about it, I guess.

Brain is offline for the moment (yay post-Endgame brain), but a couple of things wander through on occasion. I figured I'd share:

"Can't sleep, sushi will eat me."

"Huh. I've just been licked by Dagon." (I'm not sure which is worse: that I was licked by Dagon, or that I was deemed too dead to eat and spat back out.)

"Dammit, Morgan's gonna be pissed about this. Once she's done crying anyway. This was not what I'd had in mind."

I have a strange feeling I may actually have a longer PEL for Kacy than anything I've written for Morgan. This is going to be interesting to see what affect this has...

Also, I have had "If I Were A Deep One" stuck in my head for days...

It's the little things in life that make me happy. On the walk back from the hardware store to see if they by some fluke had the best wet-proof ever*, I poked my head into one of the 4 hair salons in the half mile between here and there to see if they could take a walk-in and how much it would cost. $15 later, my hair no longer has a dye-line, is even, and free of the OMG!straw that was the last 4 inches of it. (My apologies to anyone who may be startled by my having roughly 6-7 inches less hair then they were expecting.) Also, it cost me less than the usually charged price, because there was nothing fancy needed and she felt bad charging me full price for something that took less than 10 minutes. I am pleased. :D

Now, I should really think about packing for the weekend...

*Which they happily did. Seriously, this stuff has kept my hikers bone dry through monsoons and microbursts that saturated everything else literally to the skin at Endgame events. Highly recommended if you can find it.

Sometimes I wish I didn't know that me + heeled boots + woods + larping = plunging to my death and rolling my ankles. My Canada character should really be in heeled boots instead of my good, practical hikers. (Ok, so really her entire wardrobe should be relatively impractical, but still...)

Yay, two more days!

Oh gods, two more days! *flails*

I have a confession to make.

I have not had a library card for the last 6 or so years. (Yes, yes...as a librarian's daughter this is a sin nearly as grievous as saying I haven't read a book in years, which is probably ranked somewhere between swearing at a nun and spitting on a saint's grave...It's just not done.) In my defense, I never intended to stay in any of the towns I have ended up in for very long, and so didn't figure on being around long enough to bother getting one. I have an extensive book collection of my own, and no qualms about re-reading things, so really, what was the point?

Well, today I finally acknowledged that I am likely to be here for a bit and with my personal collection residing nearly an hour's drive away, this is somewhat problematic. So, while I and the boy were out running errands I stopped at the town library and got myself a library card.

I didn't realize how much I'd missed that library smell...

Flower bed planted? Check.
Lovely nice compost added? Check.
Impatiently festering for tiny green flowers to grow? Check.
Knee informing that going for a nice long walk immediately after gardening was not a smart idea? Check.

Someday, I will learn. I swear. In the meantime, my little flower bed is now just waiting for things to start making with the growing. My little grass patches seem to be doing nicely, which means acquiring more grass-seed is probably in order. All of my potted herbs are now growing (the basil is multi-colored, which is neat...some of them are PURPLE!) and in a few weeks I'll be able to have nice fresh herbs in my food.

Hooray for green things!

Stuff and Things

So many things I should be doing today... I need to make a metric ton of packets for Endgame next weekend (I thought I had more than I do left from last season). I need to, oh, write up my character for next weekend (yes, yes...total slacker...). I should clean the bathroom and sweep. I should start redrawing the Foxentrees onto the "real" paper so I can paint and scan them. I should clean off my worktable so I can do just that.

I also just downloaded a .pdf of "The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making" from Cat Valente, who is offering it for free until Monday (which the usual "please do not upload to sites, etc." stipulations) starting here. Which of course means I OMG WANT TO READ IT ALL NOW!

Or take a nap. This overcast thing is killing me...

As of today, I am now (finally! Something in it's entirety!) fully set up to be able to produce my own prints.

Guess this means I should start letting the rest of the Foxenwood out of my brain now, huh? Also, new discovery? Gouache over ink is the awesomest thing ever. OMG <3 it.
