Dammit. The Borders in Nashua, where the boy and I hide from the summer and occasionally go to just to get out of the house and have a cup of coffee while peering at books is one of the ones slated to be closed. The list of closing stores is here.

Guess it's Barnes & Noble and their crappy coffee and tiny tables now. *sigh*

Lucky. Apparently the other nearbyish one (Burlington MA) is also on the list of closures.

I'm sure something will turn up. Sadly, there aren't too many local options around Pepperell.

It's not so much the books, as the hanging out with coffee and books. Both of us have had the idea that owning a combo bookstore/cafe would kinda be awesome. (The idea probably far more than the reality, but there you go.) There are so few places you can just sit around for hours at without having to spend a ton of money, especially this far out. Most libraries I've been in are rather particular about talking in them.

I have never been in a library where they cared in the least bit about people talking. Eating sure, but not talking. Many even have special areas with seats set up for this purpose. Nice leather chairs..

Volare mentioned the one here in town used to be the more social variety, so I'll definitely need to wander by. I keep meaning to, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
