Ever notice how when you come across something randomly, that you haven't seen in ages, it suddenly starts cropping up everywhere? I randomly stumbled across GIMP again while digging through the archives at Propnomicon. It's a free photo manipulation program you can download that the last time I encountered it was 1.0 back in 1998. It was unwieldy and buggy as all hell then, but I'm assuming by now it's probably a bit more functional. I thought this was cool.

I just came across it again on a completely unrelated website. It's either some sort of weird coincidence or the Universe is trying to tell me something. I'm going with Option B, as I do need some sort of manip. program and it's a good excuse to run with it. ;)

Still a bit odd...

Another suggested one is http://www.getpaint.net/. Its another freeware alternative that is pretty user friendly.

Ahh, GIMP. It comes included with Ubuntu installs, so I've been using it on my work laptop since I got it. I've also been using it at home since my computer with my old copy of Photoshop 6 when kerblooey. I'd still prefer Photoshop, but one of these programs is free, and the other is $800...

"one of these programs is free, and the other is $800..."

Exactly. :)

I'm just amused that it's still around.
