Dear Neighbor-Lady~
You are a screaming example of everything I can't stand about idiots in winter, and why I, a woman, will rant about "Damned women drivers". Let me explain a few things to you. One, this is called snow. It's thick, and you can't see through it. This means that you should clear the snow off the car BEFORE YOU TRY AND DRIVE. Windshield wipers don't count. That way you don't have to stop at the edge of your condo's parking lot and clear it off then. Which brings me to my next point. I'm sorry your dark colored coat doesn't match your nice powder blue sweater and tan khakis. Suck it up. When you get out of your car with your wee little snow brush (finally), it helps to PUT THE DAMNED COAT ON. As in, put your arms in the sleeves and zip the thing up. Holding it over your head with your other hand isn't particularly effective for a.) keeping snow off of you, or b.) keeping you warm. By the way, it's 18 degrees out and still snowing. No really, put your coat one.
If you are incapable of understanding these very basic requirements for LIFE IN NEW ENGLAND, move South for the love of toast.

Sincerely,

your neighbor who just nearly had a apoplectic fit watching you.

Men don't do these things?

Men seem to tend to commit to one or the other. They'll either entirely clear the whole thing or leave it as is and just go with it (the second one, I also get bitchy about, as that's a huge safety issue for everyone). Same with the coat. It's either on or off, not the whole half-way in between thing. I've seen more women do stuff like this one. She was also halfway in the road when she decided "oh, maybe I should actually clean this off". Not saying it's all women, as I know a large number who are actually smart about this stuff, but I also know (and have been on the receiving end of too many soccer moms) a sadly higher proportion who are, unfortunately, the poster children for why the stereotypes exist.

I also concede, as a result of too many negative experiences with women doing really dumb things (my favorite is still getting rear-ended at a drive-through because she "took her foot off the brake to adjust her mirror") that I tend to auto-fill the issue.

I hate to think that I'm the kind of person who laughs at someone doing something stupid, but I did. Sigh

I tend to find there are times when it is not only acceptable, but warranted. Then again, I'm a raging Scorpio, so... ;)

I remember when I went to college and so many Freshman girls from "down south" (Pennsylvania) had the down jackets that were the rage then (very expensive) with expensive boots, and gloves, but would they wear hats? (bad for the hairdo) Did they stop wearing miniskirts or wear tights with them? Of course not. I guess those girls grew up to be your neighbor.
Having grown up in Maine, we knew the value of staying warm.

Yeah, there's a reason New England isn't exactly known for being a high-fashion region. Our idea of winter fashion isn't so much "Wow, you look gorgeous!" but "Wow, you look warm!" I'll admit that I rarely wear hats, but it's more because I really dislike having things on my head, so I'll only put one on when it's REALLY miserable out. Yesterday? I wore my hat.

But it isn't dainty and feminine to do things right. If you do things right the man can't step in and appear useful. ;p

Last winter in Hull with a gale force wind roaring off the icy water I saw 3 young girls walking toward the Dunkin Donut shop that I was in. Their jackets open showing off their lovely halter tops one had a navel ring with blue skin around it. I think that she might have been a smurf. I bless them for their suffering.
