I would like to state right now that waking up to "So, my doctor said I have appendicitis and need to go to the hospital now" is NOT on my list of favorite ways to wake up.

Yesterday we took Rellik_canard into Newton-Wellesly to have a CT scan to check for such fantastic things as diverticulitis for some abdominal issues he's been having off and on for a while. Apparently we just missed them trying to chase us down when we left because the scan showed a fantastically inflamed appendix instead. Of course, his phone is a very expensive paperweight, so they couldn't call him. This morning he got hold of his doctor to be told to get his butt to the ER and have that taken out now, 'k thanx. Hence, my morning wake-up call of the above.

So, here we are, he's in surgery, I'm in the cafeteria with coffee, a laptop, two phones, and a beeper waiting for them to call me that he's in Recovery.

Ya know? I've spent a few too many days in hospitals lately. I also have a borderline psychotic issue with waiting for surgery patients, having had a rather bad experience with it about 20 years ago.

Needless to say, boy is staying with me for the next few days so I can keep an eye on him for myself.

Heh. I'm just finding it amusing that I had told him it was appendicitis a few weeks ago or whenever it was when he was crashed on our couch all day with it, after checking his temp (oh hey, feverish..) and poking a bit.

Eh well.

Eh, apparently he's been walking around with it for a couple years. He's had this happen off and on for the last 3 years, and it's only recently started getting more frequent. According to the surgeon, it was this nasty scarred up grossness at this point. He sounded rather impressed and more than a little startled.

Bloody mutant freak. Damned good thing he's cute. ;)

Appendicitis isn't all that bad. Knowing Rellik, he'll be just fine in a couple of days.

Heheh...he was already asking when he could eat about 15 minutes after the anesthesia wore off and was still ignoring the morphine pump when I got shooed out around 10:30.
