Seems the jackasses of Westboro Baptist Church have decided to picket a gods-damned PLAY in Portsmouth next week. A friend of mine in the theatric business states "Seacoast Rep has just received news that their BlackBox Production of THE LARAMIE PROJECT will be picketed by www.godhatesfags.com. Now more than ever we need to stand together against intolerance and support this production. They'll be selling tickets at a 50% discount from today until the close of this production. I kinda want to show up and drop rocks on them from the roof. Maybe even a few sharp things, just for fun. People that can afford it should go to the production, just to annoy them, if nothing else. ;)

Just want to bite them. As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm not particularly fond of Seacoast Rep (they're honestly a snotty bunch of bastards with an overdeveloped sense of their own awesomeness), but I have a serious hate-on for the Westboro bastards. If it pisses them off, I'm willing to support it.

They hate that.
They are all about baiting folk and making a scene.

I just don't understand how they get the permits. I just do not get it. I don't understand why they are allowed to exist.

We do have the right to Free Speech.
Some people do believe the things they say.
We believe otherwise, and we do have the right to tell them so.
Neither of us have the right to shut the other one up. (As much as we'd like to.)

I guess a huge part of my issue with it is that what would be considered at very least harassment in any other venue, is considered "oh they're just exercising free speech, here's your permit". Why is it unacceptable in schools or the workplace, but perfectly fine to do it at funerals and half a town? That's the part I don't get.

I dunno. Sometimes I seriously consider moving to Canada. ;)

I really want to know how they win those, given that last I knew "inciting to riot" was actually illegal, and yet they are allowed to continue doing it. Do. Not. Get. It.

I wish I could believe that, but sadly the lesson I came away from the bullies in school with was "Ignore them, and they keep going/get worse. Beat the shit out of them, they go away". Admittedly, this was probably not the lesson the adults wanted me to learn, but it was effective. I just accepted the consequences when I got detention for it. ;)
