spiralngphoenix: (My principles)
Today's a little bit odd for me. I grew up in NH where, until a few years ago, MLK day was Civil Rights Day. The federal gov't made us change it to the one the rest of the country recognized. This struck me, and continues to strike me, as disrespectful to all the other folks who have fought, and continue to fight every day, for equal rights for everyone. I have a suspicion Dr. King would agree with me, that we should be honoring them all, not just one man, no matter how charismatic he may be.

So, since I'm a stubborn New Englander, from a state whose motto is "Live Free or Die", Happy Civil Rights Day. Today, I honor ALL the men and women who have fought for equality for everyone, regardless of color, gender, race, orientation, etc.
